SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The 56th annual South Dakota Pork Congress kicks off Wednesday morning at the Ramkota Exhibit Hall in Sioux Falls. The two-day event will include seminars, a trade show, and banquets each evening.
The event will feature keynote speakers discussing all things pork-related, beginning with South Dakota state veterinarian Dr. Beth Thompson, discussing swine health, foreign animal disease and other animal health-related topics.
The trade show will include multiple vendors showcasing some of the latest advancements in the pork industry.
“The trade show has over 160 vendors. Anything from construction, technology, and medical supplies. We have a couple of our other commodity organizations that are going to be there and then nutrition, genetics, really anything and everything under the sun we’ve got represented. We have a couple of banks that sometimes attend, so really if you’re looking for something to do, kind of deep dive into, we’re probably going to have something for you,” said Abbey Riemenschneider, Director of Programs and Communications for the South Dakota Pork Council.
The event runs from January 15th to the 16th and is free and open to the public.
“By attending the Pork Congress you’re getting to meet one on one with our producers as well as our allied industry members, so by just coming you’re learning about what we’re doing on a daily basis because even though you can’t see into our barns we’re more than happy to show you pictures, explain to you what we’re doing every day in those barns and really getting that transparency out there even though it’s just a health and biosecurity reason that you can’t come on to our farms, so just really learning about what we’re doing in the industry and walking away with a really good understanding that our producers aren’t going to put anything in front of you that they wouldn’t feed their families,” said Riemenschneider.
